About 11 o’clock on Thursday night a fire was discovered in the Koval Hotel, Alilton. occupied by Mr K. Lafl'cy. There were only the members of the "family in the house at the time. The fire had a good hold when discovered, and hardly anything was rescued. The brigade, who ■were enjoying a social in the fire station when the bell rung, were immediately on the scene, but were unable to extinguish the blaze, and the, building of 20 rooms was destroyed. Mr Laffey had it insured in the Atlas for £I,OOO. It is said that an inquiry will be held into the origin of the fire, which at. present is a mvstery. The many friends of Mr Claude G. L. Gregg will be pleased to learn that he has been appointed general manager of the AncobraExploration and Dredging Company, Limited. Tin’s company hold concessions for 60 miles of the river Ancobra, on the Gold Coast of West Africa. Mr Gregg was very well known here a few years ago, both socially and as a footballer, having in the latter capacity captained the Boys’ High School Football Club for two years, and also the ’Varsity for a . longer term, when the latter were particularly strong, it i s very gratifying to loam that our young men are holding important positions in cdhsr parts of the world.
