RICCARTOX TRAINING NOTES. [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, March 18. It was a beautiful morning at Riccarton, and the work was interesting. The plough provided good going. Nightwalch beat Autumnus over six furlongs in Irnin 16gsee, the latter's form being disappointing. Glonfinnnn beat Masterpiece over a mile in Imin 45see. Peg ran six furlongs in liniu 16|sec. finishing well. Mowbray sprinted five furlongs smartly in Imin 21-scc. Emperador gave Cherubini two lengths' start and beat him over six furlongs in Imin 16ij.-cc. finishing very resolutely. Sanguinary and Lady X'olan did the last, live of six furlongs in 65|sec. Pilgrim's Way ran six furlongs in Imin 16|sec. Sal/,burg beat Ogier attractively over five furlongs in 62|sec. Kilts boat Coroniform over six furlongs in Imin 16sec. Carolus boat Editah over a mile in Imin 45see. Vice Admiral finished several lengths behind them, and appeared to walk lame. Query beat Gnome over seven furlongs in Imin 50|see. Brown Owl and Heathcrbrae were associated in strong work. Canute beat Daylight Rill over 10 furlongs in 2min looser, boxing! LONDON, March .17. (Received March 18, at 1.25 p.m.) At the National Sporting Club HamLewis, an American, boat Jack .Harrison, English middle-weight professional champion, in the third round. ~FOOTBALL. The football season is here once more, and at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday the first matches of the season will bo played. The Southern meet a team from the Zingari (Tiinani), play commencing at 1.45. This should provide a very interesting match, as the Zingari Club "arc the strongest in South Canterbury, and as the South Canterbury team defeated Otago on the Northern tour it will be interesting to see the players who put up such a good game against our representatives. The Dunedin Club will plav Sydenham on the same ground, kick-off at 0.15 p.m. EASTER TENNIS TOURNAMENT. The Otago Lawn Tennis Association’s Easter tournament will be held at the association’s courts at Anderson Bay on Friday, Saturday, .Monday, and Tuesday. March 21, 22, 24, 25. Excellent entries have, been received for all events, and some exceedingly interesting tennis should he witnessed. The courts are in excellent condition this year, and extra scaling accommodation has been provided for the public. Luncheon and afternoon tea will be obtainable at the courts.
