CALEDONIAN SPORTS
Second Day.—Thursday. The second day of the Otago Caledonian Society's 51st annual gathering was better than the first day as regards the sporting events, as a whole, although a few were barren of brightness owing to the poor competition. The liveliest events were the wod-chopping and wood-sawing competitions. In these the competitor*; did their best all the time. The wrestling, although unconscionably prolonged, was very good, and held the attention of spectators, who appreciated the clever points in the various bouts. The cycling races were poor. Wall and Kerr, of Christchurch, found the handicapping a bit severe against them in several races. It is probable, however, that they would have made light of the concessions if there had been no wind, as on the first day. The attendance was good, comparatively S leaking, the gate receipts amounting to 161 Ids 6d, making a total for the gathering of £339 12s 6d, as against £321 lis —an. increase of £lB Is 6d. The pri/e money totalled £SOO. Following are the results obtained after the ' Star' had gone to press yesterday afternoon : OTAGO HANDICAP, of £SO (three distances of 130, 220, and 350 yds).
