FORCING EXCESS SALARIES ONMEMBERS. “ UNWARRANTABLE IMPERTINENCE.” Prtss Asiociation—By Telegraph—Copyright, SYDNEY, November 13. In the Assembly, during the discussion on the Estimates, Mr Wood. protested against the Treasury paying into the bank his share of the increased salary which members recently voted themselves. He characterised it as unwarrantable impertinence to attempt to place him in a'false position by making him accept the increase, ngainsT which he voted. He had returned the first instalment, and would not draw the second. ATTACKS ON THE SPEAKER. S\DN HY, - November 15. It transpires that the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly (Mr Willis) has the distinction of having a senior detective as a bodyguard. • When questioned, on the matter, Mr said he had been subjected to insuit in the public thoroughfares and threatened in scoundrelly language bv well-' known and unknown persons, ’lie was sufe the citizens would be relieved to know that the Inspector-General of Police had detailed a detective to carry out his official instructions. FUTURE LOANS. SIDNEY, November 14. (Received November 14, at 9 a.m.) The Agent-General (Air Coghlan) has recommended that a Minister visit London in, 1913 to confer with the New South Wales Government’s financial advisers regarding the flotation of future loans. It is stated that the Government approve the tecommeiidation. and that a Minister will depart for England shortly; THE GAS COMPANIES BILL. S\DNKY. November 14. (Received November 14, at 9 a.m.)Owing to the recent Ministerial statement that ‘ the amendments proposed by the Legislative Council in the Gas Bill are bot likely to be accepted, the Gas Companies Employees' Union again resolved to take a secret ballot on the question of striking for a shilling increase. The ballot, however, has been postponed pending the fate of the Bill.
