BOXING.
A CONTEST STOPPED
, A London cable states that Pettv-officcr Curran beat Synott in the second' round, the referee stopping the fight. A later message saye that the fight was stopped on humane grounds.
Harry Jones, the Cardiff half-caste lightweight boxer, gave a remarkable display of single-handed boxing at the Albert Club, London, in defeating Sam Lucas in a 10-round contest. At Wrexham in a bout with Private Basham he injured his right hand so seriously that he will be unable to use it for several weeks. Tho match with Lucas at the Albert Club, however, was so important that rather than disappoint his supporters Jones went into the ring without telling anybody about his accident. Lucas was heavier and stronger than Jones, and, discovering in the first round that something was wrong with his opponent’s right hand, he made strenuous efforts to overcome him. Jones, with splendid courage and the most dexterous use of his left, withstood all onslaughts, and at the end of the bout, was declared the winner amid a scene of immense enthusiasm.
