HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS.

If the postponement of tho Boys’ High School sports meeting from Saturday to . yesterday lest the services of the Canadian Cadets, whose participation in the pro- 1 gramme would have proved a great magnet ! to the public, it at least won the favor of : that undependable jade the weather. It was a perfect summer day which enticed a . large number of sport lovers to the Carls- : brook Ground, in addition to those adherents of the school sports who may be counted upon in any weather every year. Only the ground, heavy and treacherous, bore evidence to tho rains of the past week. This, of course, quashed what aspirations there may have been in the way of record beating, but did not prevent some very good racing from the judicious handicaps set. One of the best features from the public point of view was the expedition with which a lengthy programme of 33 events was disposed of under the guidance of Mr F. H. Campbell and bis assistants. The Consolation Bace, time-honored finale to the meefr.ng, was run at 5.25 p.m., just live minutes later than scheduled time. Again, a special word of praise is due in these columns to J. H. Williamson and E. S. Smith, boys who filled the office of Press stewards both conscientiously and expeditiously. There were three competitors for the cup presented by the Hon. J. R. Sinclair—J. I). Hutchison. A. C. Aitken, and M'Ghie, These were scratch men in every event, and the cup points were awarded them according to their relative positions at tho finish of each event, irrespective of their position to competitors outside the cup competition. Tho only condition governing the awarding of points- was, that the competitors must not exceed the reasonable time limit fixed in the running events, or fail to reach the standard in tho jumps. In the mile race both Hutchison and M'Ghie failed to make the distance in standard time, so that Aitken. who did not face, tho starter, lost nothing. The final result of the competition loft Hutchison first with 16 points, Aitken second with 10 points, and M'Ghie third with 5 points. The results of the various events were as under;— High Jump (Open). Record, sft 4^in. — A. G. Aitken (scratch), R. Allan (4in), and K. Saimders (4in) jumped sft and tied.
