COACHWORKERS' DISPUTE.

Mr J. R. Triors (Conciliation Commissioner) will hear the Ota K o Coachworkers and Wheelwrights' Industrial Union of Workers' dispute on the 16th inst. The following are tho principal claims made by the union:— . Hours of Work.—The week's work not to exceed 44 hours, after which overtime shall be paid. Wages. All journeymen. bodymakers, car-makers, wheelwrights, carworkers, painters, .smiths, trimmers, and vicemen to receive Is 6d per hour; leading hands in any department shall in addition to the wages subscribed receive Is per day extra. That Gd per day be allowed all journeymen woodworkers for use of tools. Overtime and Holidays.—Overtime shall bo paid for alj time previous to tho ordinary starting time, or after ceasing time, at the following rates • lime and a-quarter for the first' two hours, and time and a-half afterwards and on New Year's Day, 2nd January' faster Monday, Labor Day, and Boxing Day, which are the ' recognised holidays; double time on Sundays, Christmas Day, and Good Friday and from midnight until ordinary timo of starting work next morning." Apprentices.—That all boys workiimat any branch of the trado'shall serve as apprentices for the term of five years before receiving a certificate of competency. One apprentice to be allowed to every three journeymen in wood shop, paint shop, trimming shop, and smith shop. Each apprentice in a smith shop, after serving three years, shall bo entitled to a fire, another apprentice to be taken on when the first apprentice goes to a fire. An apprentice to b© taken on in other departments every fourth vear of the previous apprentice's time. Apprentices transferred from other employers not to be computed in the calculation for the additional apprentice in the fourth or the third year of the smith. All apprentices shall be paid the following rates—viz.: First year, 10s per weeksecond year, 15s per week; third year, JOs per week; fourth vear, 30s per week; firth year, 40s per week \ny apprentice who has completed his term of apprenticeship may be employed as an improver, either by the employer to whom he has been apprenticed or by any otner employer, at not less than 9s per day for the first 12 months, and KJs per oayjor a further period of 12 months. No improver shall bs employed where no journeymen are employed. , Helpers.—One helper to be allowed m each department except smith shop, where one helper be allowed to each fare.

Work of Helpers.—The work of helpers to be as follows:—Grinding paint, sandpaper old work, tako off and put on wheels, clean axles and paintpots, wash off old and new vehicles, clean up silver and plated work, carrying timber, cleaning and oiling machinery and tools, blowing bellows, striking, cleaning old springs carrying coal, teasing hair, and cleanl ing up shop. Wages of Helpers.—Tho wages of helpers shall be as follows:—Fifteen years of age, 10s per week; 16 vears los; lv years, 20s; 18 years, 2os • I!) years, 30s; 20 years, '3ss; over 20' years, l s lid per hour. Piecework shall not be allowed.
