MR EDWARD PINDER.
PRINCIPAL OF TRAINING COLLEGE. I Mr Edward Pinder, M.A., who was appointed Principal of the Training College by the Education Board last night, pos- . sesses, in addition to high literary, and j considerable scientific attainments, a ripe ! and eminently sane judgment of men and affairs that should make him an ideal principal of a college for teachers. This is the verdict of all who have been brought into touch with the man and his work. Mr Pinder was born in Dunedin 45 years ago, and received his primary education at the Union Street School, of which (under its new title of Normal School) he is now head master. This coincidence is made more curious by the fact that Professor White taught him in tho Union Street School, and he now takes that gentleman’s post as head of the Training College. Mr Pinder has won all hie honors in the Otago district. He ; served his pupil teachership in the 1 Bavenebourne School, and at the complcof one year subsequently at the Training College, and was appointed to tke Inch Valley School in 1887. Two years later he became head master of the Papakaio School, and occupied the position for 2 2 years. He was afterwards ! successively head master at Sawvers Bay j (for six years), at the Mosgiel* District : High School (for eight yearsf and at tho Normal School (for three years). j Air Finder’s University course was un- | dertaken in tho evenings* of his strenuous I school days. He took his B.A. degree in ! 1894, when he -gained a senior scholarship in mental science ar ..he Stuart prize for physics. Next, year he obtained his . i. degree with honors in mental science. Amongst his University attainments are ' first class honors in political economy, J theoretical and practical chemistry, theo- ! retical and practical physics, and* mertol science; and second class hon :rs in senior : English and junior m a them-ties, j There were nine 'applicants for the , position, which Air Pinder s'"-;n as i from March 1. 1913. ■
