MEETINGS AND SOCIALS
ORDER OF THE STAR IN THE EAST. A very pleasant evening was spent b\ th» members and friends of this Ordei at Sawyer* Bay yesterday on the occasion of a lecrurc by Mis* Billing on ‘Some Forgotten Truths'.’ “It- is astonishing,” she said, “ what a number of old and forgotten'truths have been brought to light from tho East during tho past few years, and when thoroughly considered, one has to admit that they arc yen' feasible- _ Take Reincarnation, wfrich has been lost eight of for a very long time. In the Western World we have got used to. the idea of one life, and on account of that we have been putting all our energies into- that one life *0 os to make as much progress as possible. Life is now, therefore, very strenuous. The intellect has been made keen by the arduous efforts that have been put forth, and this, so the learned once say, was what was intended- —to build up ths mental capacity ; whereas, if Reincarnation had been taught, people would have got into the habit of letting things slide, so that mental effort would have been' lost. When it is considered that man has physical, emotional, and mental natures, and when man examines himself and gets to know how much ho has grown in the one life, he begins to understand'that it must have taken very many lives before this one to bring his different natures to their present perfection. Looking ahead, then, if the man is to continue growing, to what heights of perfection will ho attain in the future? Another great truth that is being openly published is that when it is necessary to help on the evolution of the world a Great Teacher is sent to give a. new impetus to humanity. This has occurred before in the history of this earth, in tho person of the Buddha, and again 2,000 years ago in the person of Jesus Christ. History repeat* itself, and so again we are now looking for the near coming of a Great Teacher, who will give another turn to the minds of men. That is tho reason why this Order has been formed, eo that there may be. gathered -within its ranks those who are ready to help in the work of preparation, being a body of followers ready to listen and accept His teachings, and also ready and willing ttf» pass them <a>”
