NO IMMEDIATE HURRY TILL MR BRYCES RETURN. Frew Association —By Telegraph—Copyright WASHINGTON. August, 27. Mr A. Mifchell-Innes. who is Acting as Ambassador while Mr Bryoo is on leave, will jiot make any move in connection ■with the Panama 'Canal legislation until Mr Bryce’s return. The Embassy officials state that 18 months will elapse before the question of tolls becomes practical. and therefore urgency is not necessary. President Taft states that he is still willing to allow foreigners to test the legality of their rights to use the canal on even terms with American ships. The opponents of the Bill in Congress are fairly confident of being able to secure the elimination of the, objectionable features of the Bill by amendments during the interval. GERMAN OPINION. BERLIN. August 27. The newspaper comments on, the Panama Canal Bill largely coincide with the English comments, and refer to the serious injure which will be done to German shipping. The ‘ TagHsc.ile Rundschan ’ says that if the United States does not reconsider her decision it will be Germany’s duty, in conjunction with others, to consider the question of retaliation.
