TO-DAYS PARLIAMENT.
[From Qua Own Reporter.] In reply to a miefition in the Houae thi* Afternoon, the Minister of Defence (Hon. J. Allen) frtated that the powers of courts martial will be definitely cefc forth in tha Defence Act Amendment Bill now being prepared. Asked if the Government will permit private concerns to construct branch railways, the Minister of Public Works (Hon. W.' Fraser) slated that this 's a policy Question which the Cfnvcrnment may have to talcs into considerationThe Prime Minister stated that an amending Act was being prepared to provide safeguards against speculation in Ignds dealt with under the Lands Settlement Finance Act. The Prime .Minister further said that, prior to the departure of the Hon. T, Mackenzie for London, he discussed with the Government the rpiestion of providing similar facilities for farm laborers from Great Britain as those at present in force for the emigration of domestic servants. If necessary, Parliament would be asked to make the necessary provision.
