ROWING CLUBS.

D.A.B.C. The 21st annual meeting of the above club was held on Monday evening, Mr D. Scurr presiding. The annual report contained the following:—The membership, which now stands at 40 active, 5 honorary, and 16 life members, shows a small decrease on that of last rear. -Although well represented at the Boxing Day and championship regattas, the dub secured only one first, one second, and one third. At the beginning of the sea. son the plant received a good overhaul under the direction of the captain and deputy-captain and by the Shed Committee, and the boats were in first-class order for the opening day. Two practice fours and one convertible double-sculler were received from Q. Morton, Wellington, and two sets of second class racing oars were procured from R. Wilson and Co., Dunedin, and are giving every satisfaction. On© tub race was .got off at the beginning of the season. The double-sculling race had to be postponed owing to bad weather. One pair-oar race and a clinker-four race were held, and resulted in some good racing. The committee report having lent out to members of the club £72 in debentures, wherewith to purchase the aforementioned practice fours and racing pair. During the season the club had the misfortune to lose the services of Mr Hey (secretary), who was transferred to Christchurch. and Mr T. Hodgson was elected to fill the vacancy for the remainder of tho season. During the winter the club held seven basket socials, which were well patronised by the club members and their friends. In moving the adoption of the report and Mr R. A*. Parker said that although not so successful at regattas this year as last, the club improved their position on the year to the extent of £22. The club had also added to their plant two practice fours and one convertible sculler, and it now only remained for the members to pay strict attention to training to put the club in a. sound position. The report and balance-sheet were adopted unanimously. The following office - bearers were elected: —Patron, Mr C. F. Greenslade (reelected) : president. Mr R. V. Parker; vice-presidents —Messrs J. Hughley for their services at the monthly socials, and presented them with silver-mounted cigarette-holders. Four new members were elected.

O.R.C. The annual members' meeting of the Otago Rowing Club was presided oyer last evening by Air F. A\ . Mitchell (vicepresident). The Chairman, in moving the adoptionof the report and balance-sheet, said th© report covered th© ground pretty fully. The club had been successful in various ways during th© year, but the most important aspect of that success was the enthusiasm, energy, and comradeship displayed by the members. The introduction of motor boats and week-ending had made members rather chary to undergo the necessary preparation to become finished oarsmein He hoped that members would get some of their traditional energy back, and again attain a leading position. Ihe year had also been a successful one financially. and they had done well in the regattas. It was regretted that though the championships were held in Otago no dub had entered for the senior fours. On the social side things had gone well also. The club had once had the reputation of being a social club only. He thought they ought to combine the two functions of sociability and rowing. On the whole he thought they had a propitious future ahead. He believed that "with a little extra enthusiasm and practice they would regain their old position as the premier club. (Applause.) _ Air M’Grath seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. The following office-hearers were elected :—Patron, Sir Geo. AULean ; president. Air J. R. Wilson; vice-presi-dents—Alessrs P. J. Priest, H. A. Le Cren, and F. W. Alitehell ; captain, Air S. G. Styche; vice-captain, Air J. W. Smeaton: treasurer. Air C. K. Coffin; secretary. Air T. AI. Park; committee —Alessrs J. Byrne, E. V. Fairbairn, P. J. Priest, J. Davie, J. Al'Grath. A. E. Stevens. Air AI. Priest moved that the sum of £3O he devoted to the trust fund, which was to provide for a new shed. —Tho motion was carried, an amendment that the sum be £25 being decisively lost. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that Alessrs P. J. Priest, L. L. Kirkcaldy. C. P. AI. Butterworth. J. F. M'Grath, AI. J. Priest. H. A. Le Cren, and L. R. Wilson be elected life members of the club. The matter of club colors was brought up. and it was decided that the incoming committee be recommended to consider the matter, and possibly suggest other colors than those allotted by the N.Z.R.A. Eleven new members were elected.
