SUPREME COURT.—IN CHAMBEBS. (Before His Honor Mr Justice Williams.) Probates were granted in the estates of the following deceased persons:—Louisa Fisher (Mr M'Neil), James Schawe (Mr Bedford). Letters of administration were granted in the estates of Margaret Richardson, deceased (Mr Nichol), and John M'Namee (Mr Callan). Re James Schawe.—Motion for leave to swear death (Mr Bedford).—Accordingly. Re James Robertson, deceased, and Robertson and others v. Dagger and others.— Motion for directions as to service (Mr Callan). —Service as suggested. Re William Warren, deceased.—Petition for directions re creditors' claims (Mr White). —Order as prayed. Re Catherine Fraser, deceased.—Petition for directions re creditors' claims (Mr Woodhouse). —Accordingly. Re James M'Auley, deceased.—Petition for leave to sell land (Mr Woodhouse).— Order in terms of prayer. Re deed of settlement between Elizabeth Stewart and others.—Petition for appointment of new trustee (Mr Callan). — Trustee and Executors' Agency Company appointed sole trustee; costs to be paid out of estate. Re Thomas Shepherd, deceased, and Shepherd and Hansen and others.—Petition for guaidian ad litem and service directions (Mr. Adams).— Accordingly. CITY POLICE COURT. (Before J. R. Bartholomew, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness. —A first offender was fined 5s for drunkenness, and 20e, in default three days, for casting offensive matter in the streets. Unlighted Hoarding.—John Campbell, for failing to keep a hoarding in Princes {street lighted, was fined 5s and costs (7s). The hoarding was lighted electrically, but the wires fused.
Maintenance.—Albert Aye-re was charged with being the father of a, child born in July, 1911, to Rose Gladys Cranley _ (a married woman), aaid with having failed to provide maintenance for such child.— Mr Irwin appeared for defendant, who denied paternity. This case had been previously dismissed without prejudice. After evidence had been heard, the case was again dismissed without prejudice. Rose Gladys Cranley was next required to show that she was not herself in a position at present to 6upoort the child.—Mr Scurr 'appeared for her, and she said that she had not worked for two months, and that ehe could not keep work in Dunedin because Avers always came and "played her out." —Station-sergeant King said that it was her own fault that she could not keep ■:
place.—Tho case was adjourned for a fortnight to enable her to get work. Hugh Reid did not appear to answer a charge of failing to pay 5s per week towards the maintenance of his child. The arrears were £l3 ss, and defendant was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, with the proviso that he be released upon payment of the arrears.
Exoosing Sheep with Lice.—Robert Hamilton (manager for Thomson and Co. at Wairongoa) pleaded not guilty to exposing at Burnside on August 7 sheep affected with lice.—Mr A. C. Smith defended him. The defence was that the sheep were dipped less than four months ago, and defendant had no knowledge of them being affected by lice. —lnspector Fountain said that he would not question such a statement, but the fact was that non-poisonous dips were no good for destroying lice.—Fined £2 and costs.
