HOSPITAL BOARD.

The fortnightly meeting of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was attended last night by the chairman (Mr J. H. Walker), Messrs W. Wilkinson, S. S. Myers, J. J. Clark, W. T. Talboys, W. E. S. Knight, W. Blackie, H. M. Driver, and Tomplcton. Messrs Larnach and Ewing were apEointed to attend the conference to up eld by the W.C.T.U. next Thursday in re domestic science as it relates to the domestic help difficulty, t The Town Clerk wrote that the Council's Finance Committee had agreed to the method of settlement in respect of the 1911-I'J levy—viz., that the council now pay £27 os-6d to adjust their contribution for the year, the balance (£57 19s 6d) being written off by the board. He might add that the arrangement did not give the council what they were, entitled to, as the practical effect of the board not collecting the £57 19s Cd was that the board's funds would be short of that amount, and the City would ultimately pay, with other contributory local bodies, their proportion of the same.—Received, the Chairman remarking that, Mr Lewin's remarks notwithstanding, the adjustment was an equitable one. The board's architects (Messrs Mason and Wales) reported on extensions and alterations required at the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium. These extensions provide for 59 patients instead of 42 as at present. On the women's side it. is proposed to increase the distance between the rows of shelters and to provide each shelter with a platform or verandah, which will give increased sunlight and more privacy. A new laundry is proposed near the caretaker's residence, and the present laundry will be converted into the kitchen and will be connected by a corridor with the main building, thus separating the domestic from the. patients' portion of the buildings. Further, the architects propose the erection of two residences in the paddock on the north side of the gully adjoining the sanatorium. Provision will be made for a total of 12 nurses.—The report was referred to the Sanatorium Committee.
