IMPORTANT RAILWAY APPOINTMENTS.

WELLINGTON, '.May 29.
The appointment of a Traffic Superintendent for the South Island _has been made, this important position to Mr S. P. Whiteombe, at present "District Traffic Manager at Wellington. He joined the Railway Service at Picton in 1876, and .was subsequently promoted to district traffic clerk at Wauganvu. Ho held similar positions at Auckland, New Plymouth, and Napier, and in 1890 became, traffic a«;ent at the'hitter town. Two years later lie was appointed District Traffic Manager at lnvereargill, and held similar positions at Wanganui and Christ-church, being stationed in the latter city from 1904 until a few years ago, when he succeeded Mr T. Arthur as District Traffic Manager in Wellington. Mr Whiteombe's headquarters will be at Dunedin. Other changes necessary as a result of the recent appointments are as follow : Mr A. Duncan, District Traffic Manager, Greymouth, becomes District Traffic Manager at Wellington. Mr P- L-' D. Payne, etationmaster, Christchurch, is to take the position of District Traffic Manager at West port, vice Mr Ashley, retiring on superannual tion. Mr J. Bcvin, traffic clerk, Dunedin. becomes District Traffic Manager at Greymouth. Mr T. W. Wait-c, at present relieving Traffic Manager, has been appointed District Traffic Manager at Dunedin.
