The second concerns tobacconists, which are to be closed in tho evening of working days as follows:—At 8 o'clock on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, excepting in Midwinter Show Week and on the evening immediately preceding each of the following holidays—Labor Day, King's Birthday. Show Day. Cup Day, Anniversary Day—when tho closing hour shall bo ]() o'clock; and on the evening immediately preceding Christmas Day. New Year's Day. and Good Friday, when the hour for closing shall be optional. Tho regulations are. gazetted in accordance with a requisition signed by a mnjoritv of tho occupiers of shops. It is understood that 20 out of -10 hairdressers and hairdressers and tobacconists combined and 12 out of 1-5 tobacconists signed tho respective petitions for the new regulations. The last requisition (in September last) was put through by the, Tobacconists' Association in favor of !1 o'clock closing all round, excepting holiday time. This time 8 o'clock closing has been adopted almost unanimously. Although 14 hairdressers or hairdressers and tobacconists combined wore against the new regulations, a great, many of these wanted even earlier closing. while a few wished for later closing. It is exported, however, that the now regulations will prove eminently satisfactory, as most, of the trade is over by 8 cir a little after. 'it should be pointed out that, the new regulations being now in force. persons other than tobacconists are prohibited from selling tobacconists' wares after the recognised hour of closing.
