The suggestion has been made to the Minister of Defence to invito 11. R.H. the Princo of Wales to r-pend some time, in Australia n.s an- ollicer of an Australian regiment. The Minister pointed out that the Prince if, going to South Africa to serve in a British regiment., but as there are no British regiments in Australia the suggestion to come to the- Commonwealth would not carry the tome weight. POTATO CROPS THREATENED. THE CLOSED SANATORIUM. SYDNEY, January 31. (Received January 31, at 10.55 a.m.) The want of rain threatens the ruin of the potato and maizo crops in r.omo districts. The Federal Protestant Defence Council are arranging a great anti-Homo Rule demonstration. Advices received from Germany state that Gor»i.ich, who was taken to Germany for trial on a chaj-ge of murdering a man named Coieniun at Dungog, Now South Wales, in November, Jrfo9, was found guiity of manslaughter and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. The Minister (.Mr Flowers) is indignant over the closing of tho consumptive sanatorium. The Government, were not aware that it w.-tt> intended Arrangements would be made to replenish the water supply and to reinstate the patients
