THE MOTOR BOAT RACE.
■jT to the editor. :: Sir,—lt is a pity your correspondent "'Fair Sport" does hot* act up to iiis iiom do plume, a.nd make proper inquiries before, imputing unfair tactics to anyone. ' I thought that I had taken the right course, hut on seeintr his letter I interviewed -Captains Thomson and (lovdon as to the proper channel o(f Kilgour's Point, and I now lind -that there is a single post there that is one of the chainncl posts, and which 1 may have possibly missed. I have also spoken to two of the ollieials of 'the Otago iTacht Club, arul they themselves say that it is easy to miss this particular post. To bo accused, as "Fair ..Sport" accuses mo, of deliberately taking I.tho wrong course to gain advantage is uu(iardonable in the eyes of all sportsmen, |iut I can confidently "leave it to tho yachtsjl'rien and public to" judge from past races ia# to whether I play the game or not. getting ttic propeller of my launch JfiSuled in the basin, and losing about 10 ijriinutes on tho run down, I thought of •turning back, but as 1 had started I 'decided to see it through. If I had won ,the race after not taking the proper course T. would have readily admitted my error uvhen it was pointed out to me.—l am, j-etc, W. R. Watkks, * Owner Launch Gray. I >-January 50.
