Thcro was a largo audience present, members and friends attending in force from the various tents in Duncdin and Port Chalmers. The chair was occupied by Bro. It. Johnston, C.R., who was supported on the platform by Mr G. Calcler (president of the North-east Valley Temperance Reform Council). The Chairman, in the course of his opening remarks, said he considered that, though they had existed only two years, they had justified their existence in the Valley They had every | reason to bo gratified with the progress made during the past year, as in that time they had trebled their membership. Ho 'trusted this rate of progress would continue in the coming year. As regarded the juveniles, they had lost two superintendents during the year just ended, and had it not been for Sister Burchell they might not have hold together Continuing, he said the- objects"of their Order were twofold, as it was not only a benefit society but a temperance sociob, as well. There, were over .">O.OOO Doe'mbites in the world, and they hnd fund? amounting to some £"2,-300.000, so it would be seen they were a body to be reckoned with. The following is the secretary's report, which was read during the evening:—"On December 31, 1010. tin membership was 3f). On December 31. 1911, the membership was 101. whilst to date we have 10-1 members During the year three members left for various reasons Our sickness has not been heavy, only £l(s being distributed as sick pay to members during the year The attendance at the meetings has been good, but there is still room for improvement. An important measure which has come into force during the past year is in connection with members transferring from over the sea or vice versa."
