The monthly meeting of the Saw ye is Bav Committee was held, on Monday evening”, the following being present:—Messrs E, Laley (in the chair), Gordon, Ellis, Middleditch, Kydil, llyelop, Anderson. The head teacher’s report for the September quarter stated that the average attendance was 111 out of an average roll of 125. During the quarter seven pupils were admitted and three left, leaving a roll number of 127. The average attendance would have been higher had it not been for the epidemic of mumps, which had affected the children during the whole quarter. Some children were etiil absentowing to this trouble. The deposits in the penny savings bank for September amounted to £2 14s, and the amount lodged in the hank now totalled £ls. Since last meeting of committee the School Cadets had been supplied with a Hazard target and B.S.A. rifles. This completes the equipment, and the boys will now be able to get some practice in the more interesting department of shooting. On September 21 the secretary of the Otago branch of the Navy League (Air Darling) delivered his lantern lecture in the ball to a large gathering of school children and friends. The lecture was most interesting and instructive, and was evidently enjoyed by those in attendance.
