GREET ISLAND COUNCIL.

The Mayor (Air J. Lindsay) presided at the monthly meeting of the Green Island Council. There were also present Crs Jenkins, Aliller, Smellie, Christie, Price, Love, Kane, Watters, Wilson, Wynn, Reeve, and Blackwood. A petition from residents in I/ethaby’s township asking for a water supply was read.—Left to the Water Committee to deal with. The Secretary pro tern, of a committee endeavoring to form a local brass band wrote asking the council to assist.—Letter to be held over until inquiries be made in re powers of the council. 'The Lawrence County Council forwarded a circular in re the increasing expenditure by the Charitable Aid and Hospital Board. —Agreed to support the motion embodied in the letter. The Town Clerk, Rangiora, wrote as to the censorship of certain picture films.— Resolved that such exhibitions should be censored. In reply to the clerk’s re-quest for a letter box at Prosser street, the postal authorities wrote asking which of the two now existing bo removed to Pressor street. —Held over in tho meantime. In reply to a request by the council io the Government for the Coronation subsidy to assist in purchasing the drill hall, ■ the Alinister of Internal Affairs wrote stating that ihe grant was not available.—lt I was resolved to make a further effort to ' get a Government grant to enable the council to purchase the Volunteer Hall. It 'was resolved that the town clerk receive a fortnight’s holiday annually. The Woiks Committee's report-* outlining the progress of various works in hand, was carried.

Ihe Drainage Committee submitted their report, and recommended that tho clerk bo instructed to ask the secretary of the Drainage Board for a blue print of the plan and a copy of the report on the drainage of the valley.—Report adopted. The Lighting Committee reported on the recently-authorised work of increasing the lighting of tho boremgh, also on the installation of tho electric light in the Council Chambers.
