i SIR JOSEPH AND LADY WARD’S FAREWELL AT HOME. NOTABLE GATHERING AT THE CECIL. [From Our Special Correspondent.] LONDON, July 14. On Monday afternoon—the ovo of their departure for New Zealand—the Prime Minister and Lady Ward were “at homo” at the Hotel Cecil, and from 4 till 6 o’clock the Grand and Victoria. Halls were thronged with guests regretfully saying farewell to the popular host and hostess. New Zealanders were there, of course, in force, and many well-known English political and social lights as well—Mr and Mrs Harcourt, Viscountess Falmouth, I.ord Kinnaird, the Lord and Lady Mayoress, tho Chairman of the London County Council, the Earl of Ranfuxly, Lady Bccrhohm Tree, Madame Clara Butt, Mr Kennerley Eumford, and Airs St. 1.03 Strachey, among others. Lady Ward received her guests in a very becoming gown of cream eolienne trimmed with rich silk insertion, a largo black plumed hat and black ostrich boa. Miss Ward, standing beside her mother, was in white ninon, trimmed with insertion, a blue : charmeuso sash, and a largo cream hat.
Among tho guests I noticed Sir William HaJl-Jor.es ; Miss Host. Hall-Jones, in biscuit voile over royal blue eharmeuse and a cream toque with blue feathers; Miss If. Hali-Jones, in old rose charm erase and a large leghorn hat trimmed with old lose tulle; Mr T., Mrs, and Miss Hamer. Mrs Hamer in pale grey with touches of Oriental trimming and a cherry-colored straw hat trimmed with black; Mrs R. J. Soddon, a.ll black ; Mixn Mary Seddon, black eharmeuse with an ovc-rdrais of black ninon and embroidery, a largo leghorn hut trimmed with lilac; Miss Rubi Scddon, grey eharmeuse under black ninon and a large black hat trimmed with mauve, tulle and lilac ; Miss Fos berry, mauvo eharmeuse trimmed with silver and a large mauvo hat trimmed with clematis ; Mr and -Mrs Alfred Kidd, of Auckland, tho latter in pale grey channeusc and a. piunicolorod toque trimmed with flowers ; Mrs Caldow (Dunedin and Wellington) black, and Miss Mina Caldow an old rone In aided gown and hat of tho same shade ; Mr Then Tresize, of Wellington; Mr and Mrs M.
