Country, played in the Early Settlers' Hail feat evening..*attract€<i much attention, arid the gathering was the most successful yet held, showing that this fixture is growing in popularity year by year. In the .after-. ■ noon Messrs Boreham and Hilliker met all comers -in the hall in simultaneous play, when 30 odd boards were kept going by the two local champions. In the evening there must have been over 200 persons present, and no less than 162 competitors were «ijigaged at 81 boards. The stewards managed admirably, and there was no hitch of any kind. Mr Murdoch, sen. (Biversdale), captained the Country, and Mr R. Caldow the Town. Mr F. Hilliker (secretary for tKe match) was general organiser, and Mr J. Abernethy acted as referee. Play laited for two hours, when the following raßtdi was ann*Sunced:—Town, 152 wins; totHifcry, 85 j draws, 47.
