ASYLUM ATTENDANTS.
6 DEPUTATION 10 THE MINISTER. [Peb United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 4. A deputation of members of Parliament waited on the Minister of Public Health to-day to bring under his notice some mattors in relation to mental hospital attendants. It was urged by the deputation that the retiring age for superannuation (65) was too high, that prison warders were better treated than asylum attendants, and that the working houns were too long. The Minister said that during the few venra that mental hospitals had been under his control a good deal had been done to reduce the working hours by increasing the holidays and time off. Further, in 1909 the salaries of male attendants had been increased. He wanted to reduce the hours, but the figures put forward gave a wrong impression of the hardship of the work. He promised to give the matter careful consideration.
