THE MANCHESTER UNITY.
The return card tournament between the Loyal Caversham Lodge and tho Unity Lodge, 1.0.0. F., came off on Monday even- - ing in the Oddfellows' Hall, Kensington, ami it was a most fraternal gathering. The sides mustered 30 strong, and victory eventually rested with the ..Unity "boys" by 57 games to' 46. X.G. Bro. Watt (Unity), in welcoming the visitors, voiced hi-; and the lodge'e pleasure in again meetj ing over the card tables, and this expresI fion was reciprocated by N.G. Rro. Wilson (Caversham) on behalf of his lodge. Each lodge has now its name three times on the silver and oak shield which is the goal of these competition*. Musical items and "refreshments added to the enjoyment of ! the evening, and at the conclusion victors and vanquished joined hands in the customary chorus. 2s.il. Bro. Laloli's .scheme for the better :nid regular attendance of members at his ! lodge is evidently bearing fruit, for Tuesday night - !) meeting of tho Loyal Prince of* Wales Lodge was a success in every 'irav, and there was a. gcod attendance. '. Tin; routine work disposed of, the members gained instruction and no little amusement from the study of tho question box, from which some interesting otibjecU were drawn. The Hand and Heart Lodge met in the Oddfellows' Hal!, Stuart street, on Tuesday evening, and X.O. Bro. ]>. 11. Rcsevear had the pleasure of controlling a splendid meeting. The ordinary busiiicos was gone through, after which the members settled down to consider '.he report of the committee- appointed to levisc and amend the lodge rules. Per. Sec. Bro. J. Brown rend and explained the various amendments and additions, which the lodge agreed to, and the rides were then adopted in accordance with tho committee's report. G.M. Bro. J. Rodger introduced his idea regarding the. payment of the dues of members over 65 years of age out. of the lodge funds, but after discussion it was not entertained, the feeling being that, while the object of the motion was a desirable and a laudable one, the financial aide of it would have to be carefully considered, N.G. Bro. Johnson (Valley) and P.F..S. Bro. Clark (Dunedin) iosnouded to the second toast. On Thursday evening the TapanuiLodgj had a visit from three P.G.s of tho Order --Bins. Wylio (Port Molyneux), Wiieon (Outiam), and M'Krlean (Mat aura), and these were cordially welcomed by X.O. Bio. Jas. Ckmston and a large attendance of the local members. Bro. Wylie give some timely advice to young member;- on the importance- ot attending lodge m .'Sitings and taking an interc.-t in the conduct, of business. Ho congratulated the. lodge on the excellent balance-sheet presented ! by the auditor, which showed that during j the sis months the funds had inei-e;T=>-vl | by £204 odd. bringing the total funds no j to £5,454.
