August 2. (Received August 5, at 10.10 a.m.) There are 14,000 strikers at tho London docks. The strike is duo to the Port of London Authority's employees receiving a rise to 7d an hour. The shipping companies' employees, who had long received 7d, are now claiming an additional penny. The union officials do not desire a strike. The Rippingham Orange, with 500 emigrants for Australia, which was duo to sail on Thursday, is unable to complete her leading. WHARF LABORERS’ AGREEMENT. SYDNEY. August 3. (Received August 3. at 10.15 a.m.) The now agreement between tho Wharf Laborers’ Union and the Steamship Ownore’ Federation is now operating. It reduces the working hours from 43 to 47 weekly, with extra, pay for meal times: and overtime after midday on Saturday. STRIKES ON AND OFF. SYDNEY, August 5. (Received August 3. at 10.15 a.m.) The Lithgow strike continues pending a meeting of the Arbitration Board. Tho cane-cutters’ strike tit Mac Lean has ended, the company having granted the iron’s demand. SUGAR STRIKE RIOTS. BRISBANE. August 3. (Received August 3, at 10.15 a.m.) Nino men, including a strike, organiser, have liecn arrested.in connection with the disturbance at Childers, and throe were arrested at Cairns as the outcome cf the strikers’ demonstration. The Waterside Workers’ Union are enforcing the decision not to handle nonunion sugar. THE CARTERS’ STRIKE. HOBART. August 3. (Received August 5. at 10.15 a.m.) The Carters’ strike continues, hut to-day the men will consider the- concessions offered by the employers.
