Archdeacon Darcy Irvine, of .Sydney, has been elected to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Canon Jones. Lord Denman will consider the matter of a Government House at Sydney whan he visits that city with Mr Hughes in September. Sir Charles Lucas is retiring from the Colonial Office, ewing to failing eyesight. A London message advises the death of Dr Gregory, Dent of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Mr J. K. Menzies has been appointed head master of the North-east Harbor -School. Mr Menzies was one of the board’s permanent relieving teachers, a position he has occupied for the last years. Air John H. Y. Nish, a well-known Alelbounre journalist, died at a private hospital at Toorak on the 22nd tilt., aged 48 years. He was for 17 rears chief subeditor of the ‘ Argus,’ and recently had joined the Alelbouru-o ‘ Herald ’ in a similar capacity. Air D. Nicol, having read our notice of the career of the late Captain Stewart, says that the Simpson therein referred to was Captain Simpson, who was associated not only with the Spec, but also the Pioneer, and after retiring from the sea lived in Walker street. A Aid bourne cable reports the death of Air W. G. Willoughby, the well-known rifleman of Bisley loam fame. Professor Chilton has been appointed a delegate on beltalf of the Now Zealand University to the Interempir© Universities’ Conference, to be held in London in. July next. Two other delegates have to he appointed.
