EDUCATION BOARD.

A meeting of the Otago Education Board was held yesterday. There were present Messrs D. Borne (chairman), Al‘Kotow, W. Scott, Israel, J. Smith., Fleming, Mitchell, and M‘Kinky. It was decided to rend a. letter of condolence to the Rev. P. 15. Fraser in connection with the recent death of his wife. The hoard decided to divide their senior scholarships into two classes, 1) and E-. the subjects for examination for class D to be practically those of the present regulations. For class K, arithmetic, Plnglinh, and two science subjects are proscribed, and provision is to be made for awarding marks for practical work in field and garden, the laboratory, wood, cookery, an< * dressmaking. At least sis scholarships will- be allotted annually to class D, and ;,t least four to class F, if there are qualities! candidates. Tho amended regulations will, however, not affect the examinations for this year - . * . The present regulations for tho junior scholarships are so amended as to allot throe scholarships to schoolajii grades 0 to 3, inclusive (schools under oo in average attendance): three to school* of grades 4 to 6a, inclusive (average attendances© to 160) ; and the remaining scholarships to pupil’s obtaining the highest marks after tho scholarships in the other two divisions have been allotted. . Plans for tho buildings for technical instruction proposed to bo erected at Balclutha and Tokomairiro were approved, and it, was decided to apply to the. department for the necessary funds for their erection.
