SHIPWRECK RELIEF.

The New Zealand Shipwreck Relief Society held their quarterly meeting yesterday"; present—Mr C. W. Chamberlain (in the chair), Captains Beaumont and Strang, Messrs W. Belcher, D. E. Theomon, F. 0. Bridgeman, and J. A. Park. The sub-committee's report on the business of the last three months was as follows :—"During the three months ended to-day relief has been afforded the following survivors from the wreck of the Jessie Nicco! :—Fifoot £5, P. Gallagher £5, Landoes £5, ajid an additional amount of £5 was sent to Mrs Holmes, widow of Captain Holmes, late captain of the Jessie Niec.ol. Several letters were received in connection with P. Gallagher re firrther assistance, but after considering the reports received from the Mayor of lnvercargill and the Collector of Customs it was decided not to give this man any further assistance. • Mr"C. W. Chamberlain wrote Mr H. P.. Spence, Invereargill. Collector of Customs, asking if he would art a.s the society's representative at Invercanprill.and ho replied consenting to act as desired. £25 was wired to the" Collector of Customs at Christchurch for the relief of the survivors of the Bell Flower."' The receipts for the three months amounted to £65 15s, and the expenditure to £6l lis. The secretary reported that since making up the monthly statement of accounts £42 14s had been received from the Union Company, this sum being made up from collections on board their steamers. Mr Park drew attention to the. matter of the man who was washed overboard off the New Zealand coast about 10 days ago, and it was resolved that the matter he inquired into, with a view to ascertaining what relief the wife and family may require. Mr Belcher mentioned that one of the men wrecked in the schoner Bell Flower had called on him and expressed his thankfulness for the relief afforded by the societv.

Mr Belcher was appointed to act on the Kubf-ommitteo in place of Mr Arnold, who is absent in Wellington.
