CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
Yesterday's meeting of tho Chamber of ! Commerce was attended by Messrs G. R. j Ritchie (president), W. Gow, A. S. J’atorj son, J. M. Galia.way, J, W. Hen ton, and I Crosby Morris. ! A letter was received from the Otago ! Km plovers’ Association forwarding a eomj plaint from the Carriers and Coal Mmj chants’ Union of Employers with reference : to tho unsatisfactory manner in winch j general cargo is landed at the Dunedin wharves and the inconvenience and annoy- | ance that is caused thereby.—lt was decided to address a letter to tho Harbor Board setting forth tho nature of tho complaint, and stating that, in the opinion of the committee, there was some justification for it, and asking that it receive the consideration of the board. A letter was received from the Whangaroi Chamber of Commerce regarding the excessive amount of the annual feocharged for the telephone .service in the Dominion, and asking for tho support of the Dunedin Chamber in endeavoring to get a reduction. —lt was resolved to reply that tho committee do not see their way to support the complaint, thinking that the charge, is not unreasonable. A letter was received from the British Imperial Council of Commerce conveying a resolution to bo proposed at the preliminary mooting to be held in London on July 5, and at which tho Dunedin Chamber was to be represented by Mr J. M. Ritchie. The Secretary submitted a draft of tho annual report of the chamber, with the statement of receipts and expenditure for the year ended June 30, and it was approved for submission to the annual meeting- _____________
