Mr W. J. Hookey, at present manager of the Waihi gasworks, has been appointed manager and engineer of the In elson city gasworks. There were 26 applicants for the position. Air H. N. Holmes, general secretary of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. and national secretary for the Y.M.C.A. in New Zealand, has tendered his resignation to the Board of Directors of tho institution. He leaves Wellington in October, and after spending two months in Australia intends proceeding to Canada and the United ttales, where he will take up certain studies for a time.

Mr W. Doan Lysuar, father of Mr W. D. Lysuar (Mayor of Gisborne), and an old settlor of the Poverty Bay district, died last week in Auckland, aged 90 years.

Tire following have been appointed Justices of the Peace ; —Thomas Cahill (Alexandra South), George Cockburn (Cromwell), Robert Mitchell (Matakanui), Thomas Scott (Clarksville), Gustavus Tapper (Clifden), and Joseph Stephens ( Clyde).—Wellington telegram.
