WELSH NONCONFORMIST STATISTICS.

In rlic course of an address t.o thr clergy at \b-r)st\vith on May 26 last. Archdeacon Williams said that, the figures in.the report of the Welsh Church Commission relating to Cardiganshire were somewhat startling whan compared with the census returns of 1301. On page 59 of the report, they were told the estimated number of Nonconformist, Sunday scholar? under 15 was 15.517, and if they added the 3.115 Church children of the same Hgc ibey bad a total of 18,432. According to the census of 1901. the total number of children it) 'he county berween the ages of 5 arid 15 was 12.195. Assuming that children of the tender age of five could travel long di?i:iiices to school, and even assuming thai- all the children in the county did attend the -Sunday tchool, they would still have 6.239 scholars more than the total enumerated in the 1901 census. Where did those children come iron:' Again, if they examined the report of the Board or" Education, they would find that tho average attendance in the public elementary schools was 8,484 for 1910, and the total number on the books in September of last year was 9,892. from these figures it was also clear that only about one-half of the supposed number "of Sunday school children attended the day schools. Where did these Sunday scholars come front if they were not to be found in the census or in the clay schools? After that, be thought they could assess the figures at their true Talus.
