OTAGO WINTER SHOW.

Messrs G. Lawrence and Son hav* nearly finished the structural work of their contract in restoring Brydone Hall in an enlarged form. This morning there remained at the roof work only a few sheets of eternite to nail up. After that the contractors will be simply finishing off. They have done well to put the contract through so quickly. The Otagd Agricultural and Pastoral Society will be able to start preparations for the Winter Show early next week. The show is to be opened on Tuesday, the Ist, at 2.30 p.m., by the Governor, in the theatre. On Wednesday the South Island Dairy Association commence a conference, at which Mr Cuddie and Mr Reakes will speak. One of their subjects is to be cow-testing—an important question, if it be true that half of our cows do not earn their board and lodging. The same day there is to he a conference of men interested in Clydesdale horses, with the view of forming a society to look after pedigrees and to see that horses for export are thoroughly sound The annual meeting of the society is fixed for Wednesday evening. On Thursday morning the Dairy Association will resume their meeting, and there will also be the annual meeting .if the Sheepowners' Industrial Union In the afternoon Mr T>. W. Kirk is to lecture on "Garden and Orchard Pests." The performance by educated cockatoos promises to he something out of the common, for Professor Godfrey, who is a naturalist and has trained the birds properly, was recently called upon by the Governor for a command exhibition at Wellington.
