STRANDED SAILING SHIPS. A striking story is told by the crew of the Glasgow steamer Fitzclarenee, which ! arrived in the Tyne recently after a voy- ! ace to the west coast of South America. | It was on the outward passare from i Shields to Pisngua that, when off the const I of Pataconia, two vessels were suddenly | espied stranded. One was a four-masted barque. The other vessel lay about a mile and a-half from the first vessel. The position' was between Falsie Cove and Policarpo Cove, near Thetis Bay, on the ; east Coast (Tierra del Fuego). The I steamer's syren was sounded and a .sun fired, but no answering signal oamo bark. Tn the condition of the sea it was deemed dangerous to lower a boat. Tt was the general opinion that the four-masted barque could not havo been very long in the position in which she was seen. Her sails were in ribbons. The second vessel, which had been a full-rigged ship, was ! painted black. Her mainmast was gone, i and no canvas could bo seen. There was ;>n impression that this wreck had been there for some time.
