CANTATA AT CAVERSHAM.

Last nicht Mr A. M. Muir took the choir of the Giversham Presbyterian Church tlixough Ihe .vsacred cantata ' Daniel' in fine style, and only the restraint that a church building seems to have on an audience prevented more liberal applause than was bestowed on the efforts of the singers. The lady principals, Misses Major and Henderson, were in excellent voice, and their particular items were well rendered and as well received. Miss Henderson scored a distinct success in the solo ' How Lovelv is Zion,' perhaps because in this item the, chorus toned down sufficiently to let the soloist bo heard. On the men's side the bulk of the singing fell to Messrs Palmer and M'lvor, and they acquitted themsel'-ee well, more particularly in their work in the s*cond part of the cantata* Mr Hanning a'so sang faithfully and well. As for the chorus singing, it reached a hieb level. The tenors were the weakest part, but the others, especially the altos, were very sure. The successes of the full choir were in ' Once More the Spot,' ' Sound We the Loud Trumpet,' and the final choruses of each part. Mr Muir had his choir well trained and dbedient to the baton, and, save in the trio in the second part, a high level of success was attained. The- Rev. D. Dutton read the connecting argument* and Mi C. A. Martin was organist. THi> church.was comfortably fillacL <
