AERIAL DISASTER.
PRIME MINISTER OF FRANCE INJURED. HIS CONDITION GRAVE. MINISTER OP WAR KILLED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, May 21. (Received May 22, at 9.5 a.ra.) The aviation match from Paris to Madrid began to-day. There were twenty starters, besides nine military aviators, the latter going to the frontier only. At the start an aviator, in avoiding a collision, swerved, and his machine fell among a group of Ministers and officers. M. Monis (the Premier) and M. Bericaux (Minister of War) were seriously injured, the condition of the Premier being grave. He shows no signs of life. ,M. Berteaux subsequently died. He was struck with the propeller of the machine. MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY. THE PREMIER’S CONDITION. LONDON, May 21. (Received May 22, at 1.45 p.m.) Mr Lloyd George has sent President Fallieroa and M. Monis his sincere sympathy, and Sir E. Grey, on behalf of the Government, liar, done the same. PARIS, May 21. The propeller sew red M. Berteaux’s arm. M. Monis received complicated fractures of the leg, a fractured nose, and severe thoracic and abdominal pains, with contraction. A bruise in the, region of the liver is considered the only somewhat serious feature. His son Anio/ne, seeing the aeroplane approaching, pushed his father down on the ground, thus probably saving his life. The projecting part of (he machine struck Antoine lightly. M. Monis, on recovering consciousness, inquired whether any others were injured. M. Bcrleaux’s fate was not mentioned to him. M. Cruppi (Foreign Secretary) is temporarily Minister of War. Tig? aviator and passenger were uninjured.
