TEMPERANCE UNION
At tho Conference of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union at Now Plymouth yesterday the following resolutions were passed (l)That this Convention of the W.C.T.U. desire to express their feelings of grief and shame for the disgrace attaching to our nation in the attitude it has adopted towards tho opium traffic in China, and, in face of the mighty effort made by the Chinese authorities in this matter, hope that tho British statemen ■will make no delay in ridding our country of this disgrace. (2) That a vote of thanks bo sent to the Prime Minister for having Sarance wall sheets placed upon the of tho schoolrooms. The Ne<w Zealand officers for the coming year were elected as follows ;—President, Mrs Colo ; recording secretary, Mrs Mitchell; corresponding secretary, Mrs Poryman; editor of the ‘White Ribbon,’ Mrs Oldham; business manager, Miss Harrison; treasurer, Mrs Bendely; vice-president at largo, Mrs A. 11. Atkinson ; assistant corresponding secretary, Miss F. Cannon; Mrs A. R. Atkinson to represent the Union on the Executive of tho New Zealand Alliance.
