ROYALTIES AND THEIR PETS.

A writer in the 'Woman at Home' remarks that Royalties are said to care more for their children and more for their foin-footed pets than do any other humans. The" love of King Edward for a canine companion was of a passionate description, and Queen Alexandra's devotion to animals has always been sincere and deep. The Crown Princess of Germany has devoted much time and energy to starting in Germany a society on the same lines as that in "Great Britain for the preventioa of cruelty to animals. She and her husband have a collie, Bruno, to whom was awarded a special medal by the Prussian Royal Society' for jumping into the Spree and saving a man from drowning. Queen Mary does not encurrage her boys and girl to have pets in the house, and is by no means so fond of animals, generally speaking, as is her Danish mother-in-law. Nevertheless, the Queen owns to a penchant for one dog, even if she does not encourage hiE society in her drawing room. This is a mongrel terrier, Happy by name, a singularly intelligent beast, who seems to understand all t/iat is said to him, can fetch and carry anything, and is the favorite do,*, of all that he possesses, of King George. Queen Alexandra once possessed a parrot which had been George the Third's in the last days ot his reign. Some parrots are perfect Methuselah* for attaining age, and this bird, even for a parrot, had lived an exceptionally long life. Many dog-lovers may like to know that the late King's inseparable little companion, Cesar, is tenderly cared for by Queen Alexandra, and accompanies Her Majesty wherever she goes. '
