The increase in the demand of late years has been quite phenomenal, and as a consequence some 400,000 acres of tea plantations are now under cultivation in Ceylon. The tremendous rise in the price of rubber has led many planters to cease extending their tea plantations and devote themselves instead to rubber-growing.
