The Canadian Parliament formally declared its loyalty to Great Britain on a motion moved by the French-Canadian group that the House, wishful to dispel tho unrest caused by the annexation talk following the Reciprocity Agreement, emphatically asserts its determination to preserve intact the bonds uniting Canada with the Empire. Sir Wilfrid Laurier was surprised, but he accepted the, amendment, which was adopted unanimously. Mr Borden, tho Opposition Leader, expressed his belief that tho United States Congress would not accept the reciprocity proposal on economic but on political grounds. Mr Monk, leader of the Nationalists, charged Mr Lemieux (Postmaster-General) and Mr Brodeur (.Minister of Marine) with disloyalty to tho King. Sir F. W. Borden (Minister of Militia), on behalf of both these Ministers, warmly denied the charge.
