DUNEDIN CUP MEETING. To-morrow is Cup Day. Visitors are arriving from all parts, and the attendance may be a record. The first race is timed for 12.30. There is to be a 10s totalisator inside as well as outside. Seven trains are laid on from town, tire first at 9.20, the last at 1.2. Four of these seven trains go straight to the course without staying at wayside stations. There should be nine or ten starters in the Cup. Los Angelos, Martine, and Cronstadt are sure to be well backed. Should rain fall, it will favor the chances of Rose Noble and Iranui. The Publicans’ Handicap promises to be a great race. Aly Lawyer is not yet at his best, still he may run well. Three others that aro well and aro sure to make their presence felt are Obsono, Effort, and Kostroma, whilst Genius and the chosen of APKay’s pair must also have a say. Colleen Alary is considered an unlikely starter. THE O.R.F.U. A meeting of the Rugby Union Committee was held last evening, Air F. H. Campbell presiding. The secretary ox the North Otarm Subcommittee forwarded a copy of the evidence taken at an inquiry at which a member of the Duntroon Club was given an opportunity of showing cause why he should nut be disqualified for making offensive remarks about four members of tho sub-union. The letter was referred to the Correspondence Committee. The Secretary of lire Aliller’s Flat Club appealed against the decision of the O.R.F.U- Committee in endorsing the disqualification imposed on his club by the Tuapeka Sub-union. The writer also appealed against the action of tho Tuapeka Sub-union in disqualifying his club forfailing to pay money alleged to bo due to tho sub-union. —On ihe motion of Mr Hatrie, the letter was referred to tiro Tuapeka Sub-union for a report. Messrs Harris and Sincock were appointed to draw up tiro annual report. The date of tho annual meeting was fixed lor Alarch 25. A deputation from the Cricket Association waited on the Committee with a request for a donation to the Association’s funds. Air J. J. Clark said that tho Association had arranged with the Union for tho use of a cricket pitch at Carlsbrook for coaching practice for tho sum of £25 for tho season. Under ordinary circumstances this was a reasonable charge, but they wished to bring under notice the somewhat exceptional circumstances in the case, insomuch as the wicket was used for only fifty nights for coaching and practice purposes, as it was found that bettor results could be got by sending the coach round to tire various grounds. They now asked that tho Union should take into genrous consideration the advisability of giving the Association a donation. —After the deputation had withdrawn jt war agreed—“ That in vie wof tho exceptional circumstances a rebate of £7 10s be granted.” WEDNESDAY CRICKET. AE E. Champion, tho holder of the majority of New Zealand swimming championships, has decided to decline an invitation made by a deputation of Wellington and Canterbury swimmers to allow himself to be nominated for the Festival of Empire sports. Three well-known athletes in the persons of Harding (Napier), Haskins (Christchurch), and Keddcll (Otautau) have been approached as to their being able to make the trip to London if selected. The reply of Harding and Haskins is in, tho affirmative.
