SATURDAY’S SPORTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Being one of a number of old spoils wbo witnessed the performances on Saturday, I beg to give voice to an injustice done to one of the competitors in the Half-mile Walk. One of the starters in this race actually got down in the “set” position of a sprinter, and started off at what could be called a sprint until cautioned by the judge. I contend that if a man runs even one yard he should lie placed down in favor of one who walks properly; jjet on Saturday the competitor to whom I refer was given second place, while another man, starting oft' the same mark and walking heel and too, was only placed third I may state that lam entirely disinterested in making this protest, and am not acquainted with any of the competitors, but only do so through a love of justice and fair play.—l am, etc., Heel and Toe. February 21.
