TUAPEKA NOTES
[Special to the Star.] LAWRENCE, February 21. Mr Malcolm, M.P. for Clutha, gave his lecture last evening on ‘lmperial Federation’ in the local Town Hail. The attendance was not large, hut it was agreed on all bauds that the subject was most ablv and capably and intelligently handled. Mr Malcolm .spoke for about an hour and a-hali, and at tho close of his lecture was accorded a vole of thanks and an expression of sympathy from the meeting favorable to tho cause of Imperial Federation. Air llapley, Liberal organiser, has been on an official visit to this district, with the object of finding out “flic lie of the land ” politically. It is understood that Air MTCinlay, of Benhar, is a certain candidate for Bruce in opposition to the sitting member. Air Loudon's name is also mentioned us a candidate. if there are no material alterations in tho boundaries of the Taiori electorate, Air J. T. Johnson, who gave the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie such a hard fight last election, is certain to bo in tho field at the forthcoming election. Air Johnson s candidature will bo definitely announced as soon as the new boundaries are proclaimed. Afr J. IC. .Simpson, of tho firm of Simpson and Hart. of tho Tuapeka Brewery, who met with an accident to ids head last Thursday evening, is getting along nicely, and his medical adviser is satisfied that tho danger stage has passed. With a few days’ rest Air Simpson will probably he again" at work early next week. There was a veiy welcome rainfall in this district, for an hour or two early yesterday merniug. It freshened up the pastures wonderfully.
