LODGE MEETINGS
The Loyal Cavcrsham Lodge of OddfcJl°\rs (MX.) last week issued an invitation to the children of Oddfellows to an evening picnic in the lodge hall, and an attendance of 150 children and their playmates greeted tho Uonirnilteo. The night was rather warm, hut this in no way detracted from tho pleasure of the gathering. The chairman, cut the keynote of tho meeting when ho stated that the Committee expected the juveniles to provide all “ the inn of tho fair,” and his remark that they won I<l not he pestered by specelios was loudly applauded. A number of competitions formed the evening's entertainment, and these were entered into with great zest hv large entries, with tho following results;—MS. sight-reading: (J. Kearns 1, L. Caldwell 2. Jumbled names ; Kellie M'Ciue. Word-hunting ; Dick Hill. Skipping: Under nine—Zac Morico 1, Uissie 11:11 2; under twelve—D. Kouness 1, L. Westlake 2, (), Dickinson special. ‘‘Willie”: Cardinal- 1, H. Palmer 2. Quoits: I). Hunt. Shooting ; Under ten— John Deiifoul 1, Richard Little 2; over ten—L. Caldwell 1, T. Stevens 2. Scallywag : Jefferson 1, Sutton 2. Apple-eating; D. Palmer 1, It. Darker 2. Essay on ‘ Friendship; _ Love, and Truth ’: ‘ Rita Truwern 1, Dick Hill 2. There was a large attendance also of the parenfsof the guests, and a supply of fruit was distributed to all just before (he dose of the meeting, the success of which was tho result of the energy of tho Committee set up by the lodge. Tho weekly meeting of Alliance Lodge, 1.0.G.i’., was held in the Friendly Societies’ Hall, South Dunedin, Rro. Rowlands, C.T., presiding. Sis. Cameron, C.S.J.T.’ and Bro. Dalton, D.F.D., ’ addressed tho meeting on matters relating to tho Grand Ledge session. Bros. MXherson and Forsyth were elected as delegates to attend Grand Lodge. The Lily of the Valley paid an ollicial visit, and were heartily welcomed. As prearranged, tho remainder of the evening was devoted to a Scotch concert, tho room being decorated with Scottish emblems for tho occasion. The concert was remarkable for the hearty man. ner in which the singers, accompanists, and audience entered into tho spirit of the occasion. Tho only nolo of regret expressed was at tho absence of tho “pipes,” but Scottish airs on tho piano made up to some extent for the deficiency.
