For tho twelve months ended .March 31 2,599 personfi secured Crown Lands in New Zealand, 1.704 transfers were applied for, and 1.607 transfers were granted. On the date named the total number of Grown tenants was 27,476, of whom 9,220 were r,ot residing on their sections. During the year 930 tenants failed to effect th« improvements mjuirtd under tho Act. In Canterbury ]l3 persons acquired Crown land, 164"transfers were-applied ior, and 153 wcro granisd.
