CONGREGATIONAL UNION
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. SIXTH AND LAST DAY. The Congregational Union of New Zealand entered upon the final stages of their annual Conference this morning at ten o'clock, the Rev. A. E. Hunt presiding over a good attendance. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Tho first business taken was the election of officers, which resulted as follows: Chairman, Rev. R. Mitchell (To Kuiti) ; secretary, Rev. J 11. Mackenzie; treasurer, Mr W. H Lyon (re-elected, this being his twenty-first year of ofiicej ; auditor, Mr C. E. Campbell ,'re-elected); registrar, Mr G. B. Gregory (re-elected); preacher, Rev. A. M. Aspland (after three ballots); committee—Revs. W. Saunders, G. Heighway, G. Heivey, Messrs C. 1. V. Leijon, J. Bowden, and J. H. Wilkinson (Otago), Revs. W. I. L. Gloss, I. Sarginson, Messrs A. W. Beaven, W. Bull, W. S. Newburgh, and I. W. Roberts (Canterbury), Revs. J. R, Glasson, W. A. Evans, D. Hird, Messrs W. Knowles, F. Meadowcroft, A. M. Lewis (Wellington), Revs. H. S. Craik, W. Day, S. Griffiths. Messrs A. T. Craig. J. P. Hooten, A. G. Lee, W. Mitchell, J. E. Moore. J. W. Smeeton, W. M. Trigg, and C. E. Campbell (Auckland). DELEGATES' EXPENSES. The question of delegates' expenses was resumed. When the adjournment was taken yesterday tho motion before the Council was to tho effect that only half of the delegates' expenses be paid by the Union. After some discussion it was reyolvcd— That the matter be remitted to the Executive in Auckland for further consideration, and report to next Council, with a recommendation that this Council affirmed the desirability of continuing the yearly meetings, and of making no limit to the number of paid delegates. MISSIONARY EXAMINATIONS. It was resolved to again communicate with tho directors of the Ixmdou Missionary Society, pointing out the desirability of* having in New Zealand a committee to examine missionary candidates. At present they have to"go to Australia, which involves "much tune and expense that could bo saved. VOTES OF THANKS.
Hearty votes of thanks wero accorded the chairman, the Rev. A. E. Hunt (Timaru), for the excellence of his annual address and the courteous, able manner in which ho had presided over the Council meetings; to the retiring officers of the Committee; to the sessional officers, special emphasis being made of the. capital work done by the Rev. G. Hoigliway. minute secretary: to the Rev. W. Saunders and deacons of Moray Place Church, whose warm friendship and hospitality had been fully appreciated ; to Miss Femie, who had" attended each morning to officiate at tho organ ; to the choir and organist for services given at various meetings; to the Otago District Committee, especially the ladies, and Mr J. Bowden, district secretary ;' to their hosts and hostesses ; to the local Press and to the Colonial Missionary Society. NEXT PLACE OF MEETING. The Rev. 1). HLrd, on behalf of Palmerston North Church, invited the Council to hold their annual Conference in his district nest year—lt was resolved to accept the invitation.
