CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD
♦ LASKER RETAINS THE TITLE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BERLIN, December 8. In the contest with M. Janowski for the chess championship of tlio world Dr Lasker won the eleventh game, and thus retains the title. [The contest was between Dr Emanuel Lasker, the holder of the title, and M. Janowski, the chamjiion of Prance. The match was one of eight wins up (draws not counting). These masters played a couple of matches in Paris during 1909. The first took place in May, and consisted of only four games, of which each player won two. The games were highly interesting, and the promoter of the match (M. Nardus) was so pleased with the "tie result" that he induced the players, by means; of his generous provision of a handsome stake, to play a longer match later in the year. This consisted of ten games, the final tally being: Lasker 7 wins, Janowski 1, and 2 draws. Lasker has again decisively asserted his superiority, the final result being : Wins 8, draws 3.]
