UNIVERSITY COUNCIL
This afternoon's monthly meeting of 'the Council of the- Otago University was attendod by Rev. A. Cameron (presiding), Hon. J. 11. Sinclair, Mr D. Stewart, Mr John Roberts, C.M.G., Mr L. Harris, Mr J. H. Walker, Professor Hcwitson, Professor Shand, Dr Church, and Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P. The Finance Committee reported that tho bank book showed a credit balance at current account of £705 3s 6d. Tho House and Museum Committee reported having made an appointment of a janitor of the museum, at a salary of £IOO, out of forty applicants. Dr Pickerill wrote recommending that the Lcist memorial medal should bo awarded on tho results of tho final year's work in the dental courGo and on the professional examination next January.—This was confirmed by the Council.—Dr Pickerill also pointed out that tho appointments of tho honorary staff would shortly expire. —The matter was rcfoiTed to the Medical Committee, with power to act in the matter of defining the duties of the honorary staff, and calling for applications. Dr Malcolm, acting dean ol the faculty of medicine, wrote stating that the faculty of medicine, in co-operation with the Medical (Students' Association, wished to erect a brass tablet at tho University as a memorial to the late Dr K. K. JJlomfield.— The Council's permission to do so was granted.
A cable was road from Mr Studholme stating that he had appointed a professor from Kngland for the chair of domestic seienco ai the Otago University. The new professor sails by the Athenic on Bth inst. for New Zealand. (Left sitting.)
