SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION

Tho annual distribution of prizes gained in tho Otago Sunday School Union examinations took place in Knox Hall last evening. Mr Duncan Wright (president) occupied the chair, and thero was a laige attendance of parents and children.

The Chairman raid that, in the name ot tho Union, he gladly welcomed them all to their annual gathering. They called themselves the Otago Sunday School Union. the two words he liked in that, the nist was tho word “ union.” This Union hail boon in existence tor fully twenty-two years, and this gathering represented, as tho Union represented, .Sunday schools and Sunday school workers from all the evangelical denominations in the City and. in Otago. He liked the idea of muon. He had no sympathy whatever with the high fence and tho barb wires that separated them one from the other. He was ghwt to say that three were being removed, and thev were binding themselves tegetlu'i, whatever their special name might be, to do one thing, and that was to build up the character of the young people entrusted to their rare. Then he It keel tho thought that this Union had spread its wings to all parts ot Otago, and lie wanted to congratulate the Sunday schools and the Sunday school teachers on the work of the past year. He ohered Ins congratulations to those who had been sueeaseful in gaining prizes, and he wanted very specially to convey hi.; congratulations to those who had done very hard work but somehow or other had not got prizes. Very likelv some- of those who had not got prize,; had been doing very good *,lid" work, and he wanted them not to drop their lips over it. but u> put on a straight, strong, upper lip, and say ; * 1 know I have done rood work this year, and bv the blessing of (led I will do hotter ‘tilings next year.- -(Applause.)
