Silver is quoted at per oz. Thin Beacon Tm constituted a record one for the freezing •works of the State (says the Melbourne ‘Argos’). An interesting instance of the enormous number of sheep and btmhg that are being slaughtered, principally for export, but also for home consmnptkm, was furnished a few days ago by Mr W. Angiifls’fl Imperial Works at f&otscsay. A total of 8,008 sheep and lamtw was killed at the Imperial Works on one day—a record for Australia. Seventy slaughtermen, and 510 other employees are engaged at the works, and the wages bill is £350 a day. The '“ringer” of the ■works on the day the record was established was Slaughterman fVaAWIr, who killed 191 sheep and lamha and earned £2 12s 6cl, while Minns was runner-up with 179 and a money score ;ol £2 96 3d.
